Narrabri Touch’s 2025 campaign got underway at Cooma Oval on Monday as the first round of the season one mixed competition was contested.
There are 14 teams in this season’s competition and they have been put straight into grades, with seven in the A-grade comp and seven in B-grade.
The A-grade teams are the Banksia Babes and Blokes, Win or Booze, the Sprayerbarn Spinouts, Cougars, JWG Hounddogs, Tradies and Ladies and Hammertime, and the B-grade teams are RSL Pelicans, The Kerrigans, Touch n Go, RSL Guys and Gals, KT Civil, One Hit Wonders and Livewires.
Like last season, Narrabri Touch will select teams for referee appointments on the draw instead of choosing refs by name, which the association said worked well in 2024.
The regular season will run across 14 rounds, during which teams will line up against the other six sides in their division twice ahead of a finals series. Teams will all have two byes across the 14 rounds.
There will be no games on Easter Monday or the June long weekend, and the comp will move from Cooma Oval to Hogan Oval and Leitch Oval from Monday, April 7, due to daylight saving time ending.
The season will wrap up with grand final night on Monday, June 23.
In what was a high-scoring opening round, a tick over 10 tries were scored in each game on average as there were 62 scored in six matches.
The A-grade matches were won by Tradies and Ladies, the Sprayerbarn Spinouts and Win Or Booze. Tradies and Ladies narrowly beat Hammertime 7-6, Sprayerbarn took down Cougars 7-3, and Win Or Booze defeated Banksia Babes and Blokes 6-3.
The B-grade matches were won by KT Civil, RSL Pelicans and Touch n Go. KT Civil beat One Hit Wonders 4-2 in the lowest-scoring game of the first round and RSL Pelicans downed The Kerrigans 15-1 in the highest-scoring game, while Touch n Go defeated RSL Guys and Gals 6-2.

6pm:
Field one – RSL Guys and Gals v RSL Pelicans (referees – Touch n Go and KT Civil); field two – Win or Booze v JWG Hounddogs (referees – Sprayerbarn Spinouts and Banksia Babes and Blokes); field three – Livewires v The Kerrigans (referees – Hammertime and Cougars).
6.35pm:
Field one – Touch n Go v KT Civil (referees – RSL Guys and Gals and RSL Pelicans); field two – Sprayerbarn Spinouts v Banksia Babes and Blokes (referees – Win or Booze and JWG Hounddogs); field three – Hammertime v Cougars (referees – Livewires and The Kerrigans.)
Byes – Tradies and Ladies and One Hit Wonders.
It will be an even busier afternoon at Cooma Oval on Monday as the junior fast fives competition gets underway. There are four teams in the 12-15-years division, which will play two 15-minute games from 5.15pm.
