Fay Kirk and Robert Walker have been named joint recipients of the 2025 Senior of the Year Award, recognising their outstanding contributions to the Narrabri community.

Following the award presentation and lunch, attendees were treated to a highly entertaining performance by the Roy Orbison Show and enjoyed an Elvis impersonator.

“This year’s Seniors Festival theme was Time to Shine, which I think perfectly encapsulates the spirit of our seniors,” Narrabri Shire Mayor Darrell Tiemens said.

It’s a celebration of their wisdom, experience, and the enormous contributions they bring to our community.”

The award ceremony and special luncheon, held on Wednesday at the Narrabri RSL, was attended by 100 local seniors and residents.

Council said, ‘Due to overwhelming interest in this year’s event, all bookings were filled within a week’.

Cr Tiemens and Cr Amanda Brown were delighted to attend the event and assist with the award presentation.

Fay Kirk has been a dedicated volunteer with 2MAX FM for more than 25 years, hosting two weekly segments.

She also serves as Vice President of Narrabri’s Parkinson’s Support Group, where she has been an active member for 15 years, and is a committed member of the Whiddon Ladies Auxiliary.

Robert Walker has been a key figure in the community since joining the Rotary Club of Narrabri in 1993, playing a significant role in numerous fundraising and service projects.

He has also been a dedicated member of the Narrabri Parkinson’s Support Group since its establishment, serving as treasurer for 15 years and continuing to assist with fundraising and awareness initiatives.

“With such incredible contributions to the community, it was impossible to choose just one winner,” Cr Tiemens added.

“Fay and Robert exemplify the very best of our region and we are thrilled to recognise them both.”
