Narrabri Shire Council has released the April results for PFAS testing in council’s water supplies.
Three bores (Killarney, Tibbereena and Elizabeth) which supply water to the Namoi Street reservoir provided a positive detection to PFAS, however, is again below the current Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
Detection of PFHxS has increased from 5ng/l in March to 6ng/l.
The detection of PFOS is again 8ng/l, consistent with levels reported in January, December and March, however, above the 6ng/l reported in February.
In its latest update, council said the town water supply continues to be safe for consumption.
“All drinking water sites across the Narrabri Shire comply with the current Australian Drinking Water Guidelines which state the limit for perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) is a combined total of 70 ng/l,” council’s information states.
Bellata, Boggabri, Baan Baa, Wee Waa, Pilliga and Gwabegar all returned negative results.
Council is continuing to test the water supply monthly and releases the results on its website. The Courier continues to keep residents informed regarding the monthly
results.
NSW Health is recommending that any private bore owners consider testing their groundwater.
Information regarding groundwater and testing can be found on the NSW Health website.
