Three community members sought for shire’s Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee

Narrabri Shire Council has put a call-out for expressions of interest to fill the three vacant community member delegate positions to the Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee.

The general responsibility of the Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee is to oversee the preparation of floodplain management studies and plans. Under the current state-wide policy framework, the Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee is tasked with seeking solutions to the existing, future and continuing flood risk issues.

The Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee is advisory in nature. An advisory committee makes recommendations to council but does not have the authority to commit council, or council staff, to the implementation of those recommendations.

The committee consists of four councillors, four community members, a representative of the SES and one council officer to act as the general manager’s delegate.

Three community positions are currently available.

“If you have an interest in local floodplain issues and would like to share your expertise, we encourage you to get involved,” council said in an update last week.

Expressions of interest are invited up until 5pm on Thursday, July 24.

Hard copies of the form are available from the shire administration building.
