Kirkby Park bike path project completed

The Moree community has celebrated the completion of a kids’ bike path in Kirkby Park.

Moree Plains Shire Council hosted a fun-filled morning of riding last Thursday to celebrate the project’s unveiling.

Mayor Susannah Pearse and deputy mayor Wayne Tighe joined shire general manager Natalia Cowley and staff to celebrate the new addition to the community.

Following the celebration, council described the completed facility as a place promising fun, fitness and adventure for kids of all ages.

Cr Pearse praised the council team’s efforts.

“I am hugely proud of our team who promptly removed the rocket and delivered new infrastructure at the park,” Cr Pearse said.

“While we are working on a longer-term plan for the site, it was important to ensure the community has a safe and stimulating space in the meantime.”

More than just a place to ride, the new bike track fosters a space where children can develop balance, coordination and confidence.

This space strengthens the community by offering families a shared space to connect, make friends and encourage an active lifestyle.

Council made special mention of the children who came along last Thursday morning to celebrate the opening, with little Fred officially the first rider on the track.
