The countdown is on for the 2025 Wee Waa Show set to be held on Friday August 15 and Saturday August 16 at the town’s much-loved showground.

As one of the district’s most popular and highly anticipated events on the social calendar, show society president Gary Hibbens said momentum is building as the hard-working committee continues its preparations for what is sure to be a fantastic weekend.

“We’re very excited,” said Gary.

“Especially given the recent weather events, I think it’s going to be a great opportunity for the town to come together and celebrate our resilience and it will also be something to look forward to.

“The weather’s looking really fine for the show weekend, nice warm days and cooler nights, and the floodwater should be well and truly gone by the time the show gets here.

Encouraging community members to invite their family and friends to the Cotton Capital for the weekend, Gary said the show will have something for everyone.

“We’ll have the siphon pipe starting back up and running again, the ag and civil display area and, of course, sideshow alley.

“The new one we’ve got starting this year is the lawnmower racing, so that’s quite exciting.

“Along with the old favourites, the pavilion with all the local displays from our talented community members and the horse events.”

Friday night is always a highlight for attendees with the spectacular fireworks display and the Wee Waa Young Woman of the Year competition announcement.

Gary praised Wee Waa’s Amelia Kiem and Burren Junction’s Sophie Sendall for taking part in the young rural advocates program and putting their hands up to proudly represent the Wee Waa district as this year’s Young Woman entrants.

“It takes a lot of guts for the young ladies of our community to stand up in front of the whole community and it’s a great opportunity for them to represent themselves, their family, and us.

“The community support is definitely appreciated and the more familiar faces we see there on Friday night the better it is for the girls involved.”

Gary suggested residents check-out the show’s schedule and get ready to enter their creative to delicious goods in the variety of the competitions to ensure the pavilion is brimming with brilliance.

“Take this opportunity while it might be a little bit quieter with isolation to get your creative hats on and put something together for the show.

“Have a look at the schedule and check what dates your entries need to be in by.

“Definitely the more entries in the pavilion, the better.

“There are some great prizes and trophies available to win, so definitely worthwhile having a crack.

“I’d just like to really encourage the whole community to come and have a look at the show.

“It is something the whole community can get something out of, and it’s definitely worthwhile coming down to see what we put together to support our community.

“So the more support we get, the bigger and better we can make things moving forward.”
