Despite the inclement weather, Narrabri Pistol Club held another successful Metallic Silhouette 100-metre Small Bore and Field Pistol Open from Friday to Sunday, August 1 to 3.
Thirty-five competitors travelled from a wide area to compete – from Sydney, Cowra, Hervey Bay and many points in between, and there were eight Narrabri Pistol Club members in action.
Several NSW team members took advantage of the competition to fine-tune their pistols ahead of the Target Pistol Australia Metallic Silhouette National Championships that will be conducted by the Inverell RSM Pistol Club in September.
Junior competitors included Narrabri’s Chase Ford, who is part of the NSW State junior team for the 2025 National Championships.
There are no special grades for juniors, so they compete against all other competitors in a grade that is determined by the scores they shoot, and they only compete head-to-head against other juniors for the junior four-match small bore aggregate and the junior two-match field pistol aggregate.
Members of the Australian Metallic Silhouette team that will be competing at the International Metallic Silhouette Shooting Union World Cup in Finland from August 11 to 22, which include Narrabri’s Jason Anderson and Inverell RSM’s Glen Anderson and Tim Davey, were also among the competitors.
IMSSU president Rob Boutcher said that he expected the team, as in previous years, will be very competitive against the best of the many other countries attending the World Cup, and they will bring home a number of medals.
Conditions were extremely variable over the three days of competition in Narrabri. There were some intermittent showers on Friday, showers all day on Saturday, and a sunny day with a cold southerly wind on Sunday. Warm jackets and beanies were the order of the weekend.
Catering was, as usual, excellent. Breakfasts were provided by club member Melinda Marsh and the day catering by the Lions Auxiliary.
The club is very appreciative of their sponsors from both Narrabri and Wee Waa. Their support enhances the standard of the competition.
There were four small bore (.22) and two field pistol matches conducted, all across distances of 25, 50, 75 and 100 metres. Results are as follows:
