Debbie Gleeson is the Narrabri Bowling Club’s 2025/26 season women’s club singles champion following a nine-shot win over Helen Woodward in last Thursday’s final.
This year’s decider was a return to the final for two of the previous three club champions after Gleeson was victorious in 2022 and Woodward prevailed in 2023.
It was a tight game for 22 ends before Gleeson powered home to victory with a late surge to win 25 shots to 16 on the 25th end.
Woodward got the upper hand early on as she won the first end to create an early one shot to nothing lead, and she then became the first of the two finalists to win consecutive ends when she scored two shots each on the fifth, sixth and seventh to go out in front eight shots to three.
Gleeson then surged to the lead as she went on a five-end run that saw her outscore Woodward eight shots to nothing to lead 11-8 after 12 ends.
Woodward hit back with one shot on the 13th before Gleeson managed a three on the 13th and a four on the 14th to establish a comfortable lead of 18 shots to nine.
While Gleeson looked in total control at that point, Woodward got herself back in the contest as she claimed six of the next seven ends to make the score 19 shots to 16 in her opponent’s favour.
It was either player’s game to win in the first-to-25 match at that stage, and Gleeson was able to get the job done as she scored one shot on the 23rd end, three more on the 24th and then the two winning shots on the 25th to prevail 25-16.
Social bowls was also held at Narrabri Bowling Club last week. There were 18 players in action that were split into six teams of three for three triples matches.
