People are again being urged to be aware of scams. In one instance, scammers managed to steal more than $10,000 using a fraudulent PayPal link. In another, again looking like a legitimate PayPal notification for a national retailer, someone was scammed. Common PayPal scams include phishing, fake invoices, overpayment, and advance-fee scams, which often use urgent or alarming language to trick users into giving up personal information or sending money. To avoid them, be wary of unexpected emails or messages, never click links in suspicious communications, always log in to your PayPal account directly to verify requests, and be cautious of requests to use the “Friends & Family” option for transactions that should have buyer protection.
