The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by the NSW Ambulance Aeromedical Control Centre to a hiker who had suffered a leg injury on a remote track in the Warrumbungle National Park, west of Coonabarabran, at 4.30pm on Wednesday, October 1.
The NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic from the helicopter’s critical care medical team was winch inserted into the scene and treated a patient in their 50s for an isolated ankle injury.
Following further assessment, the team decided that the paramedic would remain with the patient overnight, with extraction planned for the following morning.
Around 7.30 am, on Thursday, October 2, a Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by the NSW Ambulance Aeromedical Control Centre to return to the scene.
The patient was further treated and stabilised before being winched into the aircraft and airlifted to Dubbo Base Hospital.
