Tatts Cricket Club’s first grade side has already eclipsed last season’s struggles, notching their second victory of the 2025/26 Narrabri District Cricket Association campaign with a convincing eight-wicket win over Boggabri Colts at Collins Park on Saturday.

The round two result marked a big turnaround for Tatts, who finished as the wooden spooners in the 2024/25 season after managing just one win from seven games.

A week after bowling out Tourist Hotel for 97 and winning by seven wickets in their season opener, Tatts showed they are the real deal when they knocked over the Colts for 60 runs and then chased down the required total in just 8.4 overs.

That saw them become the only team to have won two from two to start the campaign and it has set up a mouthwatering clash with the other undefeated side in the competition, the Wilga Hotel Razorbacks.

The Razorbacks had the bye on Saturday after winning by 140 runs in round one against RSL, who bounced back to win the other round two match on Saturday when they defeated Tourist Hotel by eight wickets.

The round two contest at Collins Park started with plenty of anticipation as the Boggabri Colts lined up for their first one day game of the new season as the NDCA’s newest club. However, it started in the worst possible way for them as opener Jarod Adams was bowled for a golden duck off the first delivery of the Brodie Heron-bowled first over of the match.

Heron went on to rip through the Boggabri top order as he took a catch off his own bowling to remove Safi Noumaan (4) at the end of the first over and then bowled Josh Colling (3) in the third to make the score 3-7.

That left Boggabri’s captain Cody Kember and club president Nathan Millar at the crease, and they combined for their side’s best partnership of the day as they put on 35 runs together. Kember scored 24 of those before being caught by Dillon Hutton in the Jonty Schwager-bowled 12th over.

That was Schwager’s sixth over of the innings after he opened with Heron at the other end, and Tatts’ skipper Josh Campbell opted to bowl the quick for his eight overs consecutively. It was a decision that paid off as Schwager bowled Millar (8) in the 14th over and Andrew Mullins (2) in the 16th to finish with 3-17 and make the score 6-45.

Boggabri only had 10 players at their disposal, and Tatts conceded just 15 more runs while they took the final three wickets of the innings to limit Boggabri to 60 runs in 21.4 overs.

Heron grabbed one more to end up with a match-best 4-14 from five overs, while Hutton (1-6 from 2.4 overs) and Jakeb Nipperess (1-23 from six overs) chipped in with the other two as all four bowlers used by Tatts finished with at least one wicket.

Boggabri opening bowler Rajbir Singh knocked over both of Tatts’ opening batsmen after Karl Hatfield (8) was caught by Jack Hayes at the end of the second over and Jacob Nichols (19) was bowled during the sixth.

Adams replaced Kember at the other end for the seventh over and he made an instant impact with three wickets in his first over to dismiss Nipperess (4), Hutton (0) and Tom Craig (2).

That made the score 5-46, but captain Campbell guided his side to victory with an unbeaten 14 runs to secure a five-wicket win.

Next up for Tatts is their battle against Wilga Hotel Razorbacks at Collins Park this Saturday, while the Colts will look to bounce back when they meet fellow round two losers Tourist Hotel at Hogan Oval.
