The ‘man with the golden tonsils’, John Laws, has been remembered for his radio career that spanned more than 70 years after he died aged 90. His radio show, syndicated across Australia, made him a household name to millions of Australians. Laws was long considered one of the nation’s most influential broadcasters. His distinct broadcast style also meant he was a sought-after voiceover artist. “Who wouldn’t be able to remember Laws’ memorable ‘Valvoline, you know what I mean’ catchphrase,” a correspondent tells Topical. A State funeral will he held on Wednesday at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney.
