Wee Waa Golf Club hosted its 2025 Ladies’ Open Day event on Sunday, with 24 players lining up in the 18-hole four-ball best-ball match.
The event was initially scheduled to be held in July, but wet weather caused it to be postponed.
There was nothing stopping it from finally going ahead on Sunday though, as players from Wee Waa, Narrabri, Boggabri, Gunnedah, Moree, Bingara and Tamworth competed in what were magnificent weather conditions for golf.
The nett winners were local duo Robyn Allen and Sue Stove, with Narrabri’s Louise Penberthy and Chrissy Southwell finishing the event as the nett runners-up.
The gross winners were Narrabri’s Zoe Tomlinson and her partner, Moree’s Trim Munro, and the gross runners-up were Narrabri’s Leisa Eather and Emily Flood.
The front nine and back nine winning teams were all Wee Waa golfers, with Kate Knight and Rhonda Palmer claiming the front nine and their clubmates Kerry Crutcher and Natalie Wohling taking out the back nine.
There was a nearest to pin prize up for grabs on the 18th hole, which was won by Southwell, and the long drive winners were Munro (division one), Knight (division two), and Wohling (division three).
Wee Waa Golf Club director Anna Baird told The Courier that it was an enjoyable day.
“Once again, the Wee Waa ladies provided a magnificent spread for morning tea and lunch, as well as donating some lovely prizes for the raffle,” Baird added.
“We would like to acknowledge the generous sponsorship from A & A Humphries, Havana Ag and Lancaster Ag. Without the support of these local companies, we would not be able to hold our event. We would also like to show our appreciation to all the members who generously loaned their golf carts for the visitors to use on the day, and a special mention to Rob Downey for helping out on the day.”
The Wee Waa Golf Club will host its annual general meeting on Sunday, November 23.
Baird said that with three current directors expected to stand down from the board, it was important that locals and members attend and consider putting their names forward to ensure the club continues to run smoothly and is able to maintain its strong community spirit.
