Celebrate inclusion on International Day of People with Disability at Board Game Day

Narrabri Shire Council, in partnership with local disability service providers, is inviting the community to come together and celebrate the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) at a free Board Game Day on Wednesday, December 3.

Held at the Uniting Church Hall, 46 Balonne Street, Narrabri, from 10am to 12pm, the event will feature a relaxed morning of board games, activities, conversation, and connection, with morning tea provided.

The International Day of People with a Disability is celebrated globally each year on December 3 to promote understanding, awareness, and inclusion for people with disability. The 2025 theme – ‘Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress’ – highlights the importance of creating communities where everyone can participate equally.

Narrabri Shire Council mayor Darrell Tiemens said the event is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate inclusion in a fun and social setting.

“The International Day of People with Disability is about recognising the valuable contributions people with disability make in our community,” Cr Tiemens said. “One in six Australians will experience some form of disability in their lifetime, so it’s important we take the time to acknowledge the people around us.”

“Our Board Game Day is a wonderful way to bring people together, share a cuppa, connect in a relaxed environment, and celebrate our famously warm and welcoming community.”

Council encourages residents of all ages and abilities to attend, but registration is essential for catering purposes.

“We’d love to see as many community members as possible come along,” Cr Tiemens said. “It’s a free event, so gather some friends, register, and join us for a fun morning.”

The IDPwD Board Game Day is funded by the NSW government and supported by local disability service providers.
