The Narrabri and District Community Aid Service (NDCAS) sleigh is overflowing with presents for boys and girls of all ages around the Narrabri Shire, for the 2025 Community Christmas Drive.

NDCAS staff, local businesses and committee members were invited to help wrap the Christmas gifts on Thursday, December 4. A huge project, done quickly with the support and hard work of those who helped.

Walking through Santa’s Workshop, it was quite the visual. With bags of gifts filling each room, wrapping paper galore, and Christmas music echoing through the corridors, magic was in the air.

More than 700 gifts were donated, supporting 424 individuals, which equated to 128 families. A remarkable 27 per cent increase from 2024.

From monster trucks to dreamhouses, the motivation for NDCAS is to make every child’s eyes light up on Christmas morning.

NDCAS community engagement and communications co-ordinator Kayla Nehrkorn said that her and the team are most grateful for the opportunity to bring extra joy into so many homes.

Kayla thanked sponsoring businesses and organisations for their support.

“Thank you to the community as a whole for their support in making this project possible,” she said.

The drop-off locations for the Christmas Drive stretched from as far as Baan Baa Ooranga Preschool to Wee Waa Arts and Cultural Centre, highlighting the extended support from the Narrabri Shire. As mentioned previously, NDCAS were able to achieve a considerable increase in the number of gifts donated.

“This means we were able to spend approximately the same amount of money as we did last year, but able to support more families with extra donations,” Kayla said.

“We were also able to spend two-thirds of our allocated funds locally. Meaning we are putting money back into our small business within the community.”
