Nineteen new NSW Police Force Housing homes will be constructed in nine communities throughout the Barwon electorate.
The details were confirmed by Member for Barwon Roy Butler’s office in response to a question on notice from Mr Butler in relation to the issue.
The properties will all be four-bedroom homes.
One will be allocated for Coonabarabran, four for Walgett, two for Lightning Ridge, one for Brewarrina, three for Bourke, two for Nyngan, one for Wilcannia, three for Cobar and two for Condobolin.
Mr Butler welcomed the government’s response.
“Key worker housing is a major choke point for growing our population in Barwon,” he said.
“Without secure and appropriate accommodation, it becomes even more difficult to attract and retain officers in tight housing and rental markets.
“It is reassuring to see plans in place for nine of our communities, where police can live locally, be a part of the community they serve and respond quickly to emergencies.
“Recruiting and retaining police officers in rural and remote areas depends on having suitable housing available.
“These new homes will make a real difference to community safety and stability.”
