Narrabri High School is celebrating a successful HSC year, with seven students achieving band five results and one outstanding achievement.

This year’s top achievers include Jasmine Thompson (Ancient History, Earth & Environmental Science, Mathematics Advanced), Samantha Westman (Visual Arts), Matilda Wallington (Textiles & Design), Jacky Ham (Visual Arts), Lillie-Mae Carter (PDHPE), Melody Calsena (Music) and Poppy Fuller (Community & Family Studies and outstanding achievement for Ext 2 English).

The school’s teachers have been glowing about the students’ success in their HSC year.

“Jasmine has demonstrated a truly pleasing achievement in her Ancient History HSC results, reflecting her dedicated work ethic and a strong commitment to excellence throughout her studies. Her ability to effectively engage with and analyse a wide range of historical sources showcases not only her depth of understanding but also her skillful approach to historical enquiry. This outstanding accomplishment is testament to her perseverance and passion for the subject,” said Rhiannon Mulholland, Ancient History teacher.

“Congratulations Jasmine on achieving the top mark in Advanced Mathematics. Jasmine achieved this through hard work and dedication. Her HSC result is a combined result of her assessment mark and her HSC examination mark. Her assessments were of an extremely high standard, with her statistical investigation on meningococcal produced to a standard well above what is expected of high school students. Jasmine ensured she mastered all concepts and displayed grit and determination,” said Rozina Brodrick, Advanced Mathematics teacher.

Jasmine said her journey through NHS was not an easy one but, in the end, she has graduated with more support and friends than she thought she would have.

“I am so grateful to the teachers I’ve had, particularly through my senior years and want to say I couldn’t have done it without you. I had some amazing teachers who went above and beyond to help me every time I would ask more and more questions. As I move past High School, I’m looking to my own future. I’m planning to study Bachelor of Environmental Management, a life-long dream of mine, but not before a gap year. I’m currently taking a gap year to work, save money, make new friends and travel to new places. I wish the best for all my peers in class of 2025 and that they achieve every goal and dream they have,” Jasmine said.

Visual Arts teacher Katie Fisher said she congratulated her students on their outstanding HSC results with great pride.

“With two Band 5s and five Band 4s, you can really see how all the time and effort you put in has paid off. It has been a privilege to watch you grow as people, as well as artists, over the past five years, and I wish you all the best for everything your futures hold,” Katie Fisher said.

Music teacher Rod Ritchie was equally as proud of the school’s HSC students.

“Particular mention must be made of Melody Calsena who achieved a Band 5. Her wonderful performance at the Year 12 final assembly gave those present an indication as to how deserving she was of this result. And perhaps a small amount of the congratulations should be directed to her dad and his band for their wonderful support also!” Rod Ritchie said.

English teacher Samantha Coppin praised Poppy Fuller and said it is a rare and innate ability to translate emotion and abstract feeling into language that resonates universally.

“Through countless drafts and sustained effort, Poppy’s talent has been refined and rewarded, reflected in the highest Extension 2 English mark achieved in over a decade at Narrabri High School. We could not be more proud of her efforts,” Samantha Coppin said.

Poppy said Narrabri High School has offered so much support with whichever path she focused on.

“I plan to follow in the footsteps of my role models and begin a Bachelor of Special and Inclusive Education at UNE next year,” Poppy said.
