Federal Member for Parkes Jamie Chaffey has been returned to the new-look Coalition shadow cabinet, announced by Opposition Leader Angus Taylor on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Chaffey retains the roles of Shadow Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Shadow Assistant Minister for Resources.

Last month, Nationals members of the Coalition’s shadow ministry resigned following concerns about legislation passed in response to the Bondi Beach terror attack.

The Coalition had been reformed in the final days of Sussan Ley’s leadership. Following a successful leadership challenge, and the elevation to the Opposition Leader role of Mr Taylor, it was announced that all Nationals members of the Shadow Ministry Would return to their previous roles.

“For clarity, all Nationals Shadow Ministers have been reappointed from today,” Mr Taylor said on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Chaffey welcomed this week’s announcement and said it’s an honour to return to the shadow cabinet as the Assistant Shadow Minister for Agriculture and the Assistant Shadow Minister for Resources.

“These are not positions I take lightly,” Mr Chaffey said.

Both agriculture and resources are deeply important to both the people of the Parkes electorate and many millions of Australians beyond those boundaries.

“I will work in partnership with the shadow ministers for these portfolios, and with the Coalition team, to hold the Albanese Labor government to account and help the voice of regional Australians be heard in Canberra.”

Announcing his shadow cabinet, Mr Taylor said it marked a fresh beginning, was an opportunity to put the past behind them and to remember that the Coalition’s historic strength has always come through unity.

“And unity is again needed for strength,”Mr Taylor said.

“This is a team with one purpose: to restore Australians’ standard of living and protect our way of life. Because Australia is worth fighting for.”
