When Year 10 student Benjamin Taylor first saw The Armidale School to visit his older brother some years ago, he couldn’t wait until it was his turn to go.

“The buildings reminded me of Hogwarts, and everything my brother and sister did while they were here, definitely made me want to come, too,” he said.

Like his elder siblings Joshua and Caitlyn, Benjamin is embracing the character education that TAS has to offer.

A keen musician, he is learning guitar and playing with contemporary bands; he is a member of the school’s cadet unit and looking forward to a season of rugby against TAS’ fellow GPS schools.

Academically, this year he is in a school debating team and has represented TAS at the Science and Engineering Challenge at the University of New England.

Boarding, Benjamin says, “is just so much fun”.

“You get to live with your friends and do cool activities with them, as well as use facilities like the indoor pool, creative arts centre and gym. Boarding teaches you how to work and live with people, consider others, be tolerant of differences and make special connections that I’m sure will last a lifetime,” he said.

TAS challenges students to be the best they can be, inside and outside the classroom. In last year’s Higher School Certificate, TAS was the highest performing co-educational school in northern NSW and the only one to make the Sydney Morning Herald’s top 200 schools list.

However the school is equally known for its expansive character curriculum, which includes cadets, surf lifesaving, Rural Fire Service and community service.

TAS has a long association with the region and on March 10 the school’s principal Ray Pearson, director of boarding David Drain and enrolments registrar Jo Neilson will be visiting Narrabri to meet with current and prospective families.

It’s the perfect opportunity to find out more about the school’s character education and how TAS is helping develop young men and women ready for the world who are capable, kind and confident.
