Police investigating Barwan Street motel break and enter

Police are investigating an alleged aggravated break and enter at a motel in Narrabri early on Monday morning.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a motel on Barwan Street, Narrabri, about 1am on Monday, July 27, after receiving reports of a break and enter.

“Police arrived and were told the occupants of a motel room – a man and a woman – had awoken to two unknown males in their room demanding car keys, before the pair reportedly stole the keys and a bag and attempted to drive off in a hatchback parked outside,” said a statement posted to Oxley Police District’s social media platform.

“One of the occupants – a man in his 60s – reportedly made attempts to remove one of the males from the vehicle when he was struck twice on his arm with an iron bar.

“The pair then reportedly fled on foot onto Barwan Street.

“The man attended hospital for treatment of swelling and bruising to his arm.”

Police said they are looking to speak with two males who may be able to assist with their investigations, describing them both as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, with one approximately 175cm tall seen wearing a light-coloured, hooded jumper, and the other approximately 165cm tall.

As police continue the inquiries, they are urging anyone with dashcam/CCTV or mobile phone footage that relates to the incident, to contact Narrabri Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
