A woman has died and a man was airlifted to Tamworth Hospital following a collision between a ute and truck on the Newell Highway at Gurley on 30 August.

Emergency services responded to the crash about 33km south of Moree shortly before 7pm.

The driver of the ute, a man aged in his 40s, was treated by paramedics for pelvic injuries and was transported to Moree Airport.

He was conveyed to Tamworth Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service in a serious but stable condition.

A female passenger died at the scene.

The truck driver, a man aged in his 30s, was transported to Moree Hospital.

Police established a crime scene with an investigation into the collision underway.

The Newell Highway was closed for a period following the crash while the investigation was underway.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
