Last week’s edition featured some fabulous photos, captured by Penny Vella of the Wee Waa High School formal.
Before the formal, the school held an assembly to congratulate, farewell and thank the class of 2026, while also welcoming the incoming leadership team of Ruby Graham, Ruby Clayton, Ava Smith and Madeleine Broadbent.
Below is a transcript of Jacki Neil’s principal’s speech, delivered at the 2026 year 12 graduation ceremony, which was attended by students, staff, families and members of the WWHS community.
The school wished the students good luck, ahead of their exams starting this week.

Good morning families, staff, students and most importantly, the graduating class of 2026.
I would like to start by congratulating our incoming school leaders again.
I look forward to working with you on sharing your ideas and that of the whole student body who voted you into these positions, so we can keep making improvements at WWHS.
Year 12, today marks a significant milestone in your lives.
As you are completing your time at Wee Waa High School, it is my privilege to reflect on your journey and to celebrate your achievements.

Matthew, Billy and Ann Shearin.
I wish I could have been here for your last 12 months, but that wasn’t to be.
What I have learnt over the last 12 months is that you take every opportunity that comes your way and never take the ones who love and support you for granted.
During your high school journey, you were faced with challenges and were given many opportunities and experiences both in the classroom, on the sporting field, creative pursuits, excursions and work experiences to name a few.
You navigated your studies with determination, creativity, and compassion, showing resilience through every obstacle.

Nettie Hamilton, Hailey Collett, Michelle Collett and Sissy Hamilton.
You became leaders in our school community and examples of what it means to strive for excellence.
Over the years, we have watched you grow – not just academically, but as individuals.
You have shown kindness, integrity and a willingness to support each other.
You have embraced new ideas, learnt to ask questions and to seek understanding.
Over the last six years, we have seen new students join your year from within Australia and even Zimbabwe (not often we say that at WWHS).

Cody Booby, Cassidy Welsh and Ainsley Caulfield.
I am so proud of the way you have embraced and supported each other.
Along your high school journey, you have had fellow students move to other schools and many have gained employment.
Everyone’s path is unique and I recognise your friends who have moved on throughout the years.
I would like to recognise Lizzy Reynolds’ family, and I am so pleased you could join us today.
Lizzy may not be with us to celebrate alongside her year group, but she touched our hearts and I am so sad that you don’t get the chance to watch her graduate today.

Cassidy Welsh and Jack Patterson.
She will never be forgotten and will always be a part of our Wee Waa High School family.
Families, thank you for trusting us with the education and development of your children. Your support and encouragement in times of celebration and challenges are appreciated. You should be proud of your children’s achievements.
Staff, thank you for inspiring, guiding, and nurturing this remarkable group.
You have helped lay strong foundations for their future in the classroom, on excursions and in the sporting arena.

Cecil, Georgia and Tanya Horne.
You have had several year advisers along the way.
Thanks to Ms Taylor for stepping in this year.
To Miss Trevaskis – thank you for supporting the year, especially in organising today and the formal tomorrow night.
I know that the students appreciate your commitment.

To the graduating class: you are stepping into a world that is rapidly changing. New opportunities, technologies, and ways of thinking await you. My challenge to you is to never forget the core values you have developed here. Continue to be curious, compassionate, and courageous. Take risks. Make mistakes. Learn from them. Always lend a hand to those in need and remember that your character matters as much as your achievements.
You are well-prepared for the journey ahead. Whether you continue with study, begin your career, or take time to explore what inspires you, remember that you belong to a community that believes in you and is proud of you.

On behalf of the entire school, I congratulate you on your achievements, your perseverance and your spirit.
We wish you every success and happiness in the years to come.
Go confidently into your future, class of 2026. The world is yours to shape. Thank you.
