Cotton Seed Distributors hosted a community barbecue in Wee Waa last week to mark World Mental Health Day.

Locals and visitors were invited to stop by for a free sausage sandwich and a chat, with the option of making a donation to support Beyond Blue.

Marked annually on 10 October, World Mental Health Day aims to raise awareness of mental health, encourage open conversations and promote access to support. October also marks Mental Health Month.

This year’s theme has been ‘Together We Thrive’.

“Whether at home, at work, at school, in the community or online, this Mental Health Month we’re encouraging everyone to start conversations, share their stories and strengthen the connections that help us thrive,” Mental Health Australia says.

Beyond Blue provides information and support for people experiencing anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges.

Last year more than 300,000 people contacted Beyond Blue’s free, confidential, 24/7 Support Service. Call 1300 22 4636 or visit www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support.
