Countdown on as new Violet Street bridge takes shape

The countdown is now on for the completion of the multimillion-dollar upgrade of the Violet Street bridge with the structure now taking shape ahead of its expected completion in November. The concrete pour for all four spans of the bridge deck was completed last week. Narrabri Shire Council has provided an update on the project, detailing work that is continuing on the bridge approaches and supporting infrastructure. “Subject to any unforeseen delays, the Violet Street Bridge remains on track for practical completion in November,” the council’s update read. Lucie Wightman preselected for the Nationals in Barwon

A Gilgandra-based newspaper publisher has been preselected to contest the seat of Barwon for the NSW Nationals at the March state election. Lucie Wightman was officially announced as the party’s candidate for the state’s largest electorate following a preselection event held in Nyngan. Ms Wightman, a former regional newspaper journalist, has owned the Gilgandra Weekly since 2016 after purchasing the publication at the age of 28. She is a life member of the state’s peak newspaper body, Country Press NSW, and had previously served as the association’s president for several years. Before the formal, the school held an assembly to congratulate, farewell and thank the class of 2026, while also welcoming the incoming leadership team of Ruby Graham, Ruby Clayton, Ava Smith and Madeleine Broadbent. NSC announces funding support for 10 community groups

Ten community groups have been awarded funding through this year’s Community Financial Assistance Grant Program to support a range of projects, from equipment upgrades to annual events. The program helps community groups bring local ideas to life, improve community facilities and deliver activities and events that benefit people across the Narrabri Shire. The successful recipients were recognised at a ceremony in the Narrabri Shire Council chambers, where representatives joined council representatives for the official signing of their funding agreements.
