Merino Challenge trip offers WWHS students valuable industry insights

A group of WWHS students travelled to Dubbo recently with agriculture teacher Olivia Bray, to participate in the NSW Schools Merino Wether Challenge. The challenge saw WWHS sheep hit the mat to compete against other schools, followed by shearing and scanning to measure eye muscle area and GR tissue depth. Students also took part in a range of workshops and activities, including a careers panel, a sheep judges’ workshop, a Fletcher International Exports presentation, a Zondii Micron session and a nutrition workshop. Sista Speak program begins at WWHS

This term marked Wee Waa High School’s first Sista Speak sessions for year 9 and 10 female students. Throughout the program, students will build confidence and self-esteem, strengthen their connection to culture, and develop valuable life skills in a safe and supportive environment. The introductory session explored the theme of identity, and the group was honoured to welcome respected community Elder Aunty Colleen Combo as the guest speaker. Boggabri Coalmine life extendeduntil end of 2040

Boggabri Coal has been granted state government approval to extend its mine life until the end of 2040. The determination was published last week and allows the company to recover an additional 25 million tonnes of total coal production. Direct employment for an average of 740 full-time equivalent workers will also continue for a further four years.
