Don’t miss WWLALC’s popular family fun day

Wee Waa Local Aboriginal Lands Council will host its popular Family Fun Day again this year at Dangar Park on July 11 to mark NAIDOC Week, with the support of Narrabri and District Community Aid Service and Whitehaven Coal. The free event will kick off at 10am with plenty of entertainment on offer until 2pm. This year, attendees will be treated to a barbecue, woodfire pizza, tea and coffee, a DJ and some exciting giveaways. Water test results meet new guidelines

Narrabri Shire Council has confirmed that its drinking water supply meets updated Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, following a review of the criteria by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The NHMRC’s updated guidelines confirm new, lower values for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Australian drinking water supplies. Testing results from June 24 show that the PFHxS level was 4ng/l, a slight improvement on the previous month. PFOS levels were 6ng/l, the same as the previous month. Newell Highway upgrade milestone

The $261 million upgrade of the Newell Highway, between Narrabri and Moree, has reached a major milestone. Two new overtaking lanes are now open to traffic south of Edgeroi, in addition to a further three lanes previously completed. The new northbound and southbound overtaking lanes south of Edgeroi were completed in the final week of June. This follows the opening of three overtaking lanes on the Newell Highway between Moree and Bellata in the last 12 months. Councils address illegal tobacco trade in region

Councils in the North West and New England regions are calling on the state government to address the illegal tobacco trade. In a mayoral minute at the June meeting of Narrabri Shire Council, mayor Darrell Tiemens moved a number items relating to the unlawful sale of tobacco.
