A big win sees the Pink Slugs move to first place

The Pink Slugs First XI side that downed Tamworth in round three of the 2018-19 War Vets Cup season at Collins Park on Sunday – back, Cody Kember, Chris Sargent, Hamish Duncan, Luke Meppem, Tom Craig, Nick Smart, Dylan Smith, front, Daniel Kahl, Lachlan Cameron (c), Ryan O’Neill, Jake Brayshaw and Nathan Trindall.

The Narrabri District Cricket Association first XI played its last regular season home game of the 2018-19 War Veterans Cup campaign on Sunday at Collins Park.

It did its chances of playing one more game this season at home – the grand final – a world of good.

To qualify for the War Vets Cup grand final teams must finish in the top two of the five-team ladder, with the minor premiers earning the right to host the decider, just as Narrabri did last year.

The Pink Slugs entered their third round match against Tamworth in second place on the ladder, and an 80-run win saw the side leapfrog Gunnedah to move to first.

Narrabri skipper Lachlan Cameron won the toss and chose to bat first before the hosts went on to make 190.

They then knocked over Tamworth for just 110 to win the contest by 80 runs.

The win was again inspired by in-form, batsman Nick Smart and Narrabri’s impressive bowling attack.
