Dr Kerry Moroney retires after 50 years service to district community

In 1970, a young and keen Dr Kerry
Moroney drove his 850 Fiat coupe from Sydney to Narrabri with his wife Kerri by his side.
The newly married couple only ever planned on staying in town for five years.
“I was born in Sydney, educated in Sydney and trained in Sydney but I came here because I wanted to be a GP anaesthetist,” said Dr Moroney.
The wonderful Narrabri community got the better of the Moroneys and five years soon turned into 10 years, and now they’ve called Narrabri home for close to 50.
It’s also the place they chose to raise their family, daughter Melissa and son Shaun.
“I enjoyed the people, I enjoyed the town and I enjoyed the job,” Dr Moroney said.
At the age of 74, Dr Moroney reck- ons he’s hit his ‘twilight years’ and has decided to retire. January 2 next
year, will be his last day at the Bridge Medical Practice and the Moroneys will finally return to Sydney, to be closer to their grandchildren.
“I don’t really want to leave but I know I have to.
“I’ve got to spend some time with my wife.
“She’s been very good and put up
with me,” he said.
Dr Moroney’s medical record is im-
pressive – he’s carried out 25,000 an- aesthetic procedures, delivered 2000 babies and conducted 200 autopsies. In fact, he still cares for one patient who came to see him during his first week in Narrabri.
