For the first time since 2013 the Indigenous XI raised the Australia Day cricket trophy after a 53-run win in the T20 match played at Leitch Oval on Saturday.
The Indigenous XI took on the Mayor’s XI in the annual match which resumed after a year off in 2018.
The Indigenous XI batted first and made 185 runs before losing its final wicket, setting the Mayor’s XI a massive total to chase.
The Mayor’s team reached 132 runs for the loss of five wickets once the 20th over had been bowled, falling 54 runs short of the required total.
It was the Smith and Trindall show on the day.
The Indigenous XI’s Chris Smith entered the middle at number six and blasted a match-high 62.
He did so with just 19 scoring shots, his innings including 12 fours and a six.
The Mayor’s XI’s Smith was also a standout for his side.
Narrabri District Cricket Association young gun Dylan Smith topscored for his team with 51 runs.
He smashed six fours and a six during his time in the middle.
The Indigenous XI’s Trindall trio were also in good form on the day.’
Zack Trindall opened the batting and scored 41 and his brother Josh entered at number four and blasted 44.
Zack hit five fours, and Josh struck six fours and a six.
The pair also took a wicket each.
In two overs Zack took 1-10 and in three overs Josh took 1-13.
Nathan Trindall, who is no relation to Josh and Zack, also took a wicket in the match.
