20-year-old Narrabri cyclist Damon Marshall travelled to Queensland last week where he competed at the Under-19, Elite and Para Cyclist State Track Championships.

Marshall competed in three events in the elite category at the event which was held at the Anna Meares Velodrome from Thursday, January 24, to Sunday, January 27.

On Friday Marshall lined up beside St George Cycling Club duo Jonathon Och and John Trovas in the Elite and JM 19 Team Sprint.

On Sunday he competed in the Elite Men Keirin solo event.

In both of those events Marshall was a runner-up which saw him return home with two state silver medals.

It was his first state champs appearance in two years and he said that he was pleased with his performance over the three days.

“It was a very nice feeling, it was good to be back at that level of cycling,” Marshall told The Courier.

“I didn’t really have much expectation going into it, the main goal was to have fun really.”
