On Thursday evening Narrabri FC lined up for its first game since the 2018 Namoi Soccer League grand final which it lost 1-0 against Moree Services FC One on Saturday, September 15, at Hogan Oval.

Narrabri FC travelled to Gunnedah to play its first pre-season friendly of the 2019 campaign against Gunnedah FC.

In a close contest Narrabri FC went down 3-2

The match was played over three 30-minute thirds.

After the first third the score was 0-0 after both sides defended well to begin the match.

Gunnedah FC outscored the visitors 3-1 in the second third.

The home side went ahead 2-0 before Narrabri FC hit back through Jordan Hannaford who finished from close range following great build up play from centre

midfielders Cooper Brayshaw and Toby Sunderland.

But the Gunnedah FC scored a goal late in the third to restore its two-goal advantage.

Only one goal was scored in the final third of the game.

Narrabri FC’s Jake Brayshaw calmly slotted a one-on-one chance into the bottom left hand corner to make the score 3-2.

Narrabri FC pushed hard for an equaliser and dominated the final third.

However, the home side held on to win the pre-season friendly match 3-2.

That could have been 4-2 had captain and goalkeeper Zaac Brayshaw not pulled off a brilliant save with his foot to deny a Gunnedah striker from close range.

Narrabri FC went into the game with just four pre-season training sessions under its belt, three of which were in the gym.

Coach Neil Brayshaw said that the result did not concern him and that he liked what he saw from his side in patches in what was overall an impressive performance.
