The Narrabri and District Junior Rugby League sevens season started on Friday afternoon as keen junior league players flocked to Leitch Oval to farewell the offseason.

The players who attended were put through drills before playing a game of touch footy at the end of the session.
NDJRL president Luke Browning said that the numbers were positive for the first session and that he expected a larger attendance as the season goes on.

“Numbers weren’t too bad,” Browning said.

“I wouldn’t call it fantastic but for the first night numbers were pretty good.

“We had a few new kids come along which hadn’t tried league before which was really good.

“We had a few 13s players there but only a couple of 15s.

“Obviously we would like to see plenty more of those players come along, but we are still building on those age groups.”

Browning said that the sevens sessions were fun and that he encouraged any kids interested to come along and join in.

“Come down and give it a go,” Browning said.

“We try and make it as fun as possible, it’s not like it’s competitive or anything like that.

“This time of the year it’s all about having fun and learning new skills and being active.”
