A key section of the $10.4 million Narrabri water augmentation scheme has been completed.

Trenching and pipelaying has been underway across Narrabri streets for weeks.

Now, two pipes, 400 mm and 315mm have been laid 18 metres deep under the Narrabri Creek next to the bridge in Cameron Park.

The work was undertaken by horizontal directional drilling specialists, Pipeline Drillers, Brisbane, subcontracting to FB Contracting who are carrying out the overall contract.

The drilling drew interested passersby to the bridge railings to watch progress as the project proceeded.

Pipeline Drillers supervisor on the job, Paul Tredenick, acknowledges that after 22 years on projects across Australia like this, and very much bigger, even he still find the directional drilling fascinating.

The directional drilling began on the western side of the bridge and bored two small tunnels down into the river bank and even deeper down under the river bed to emerge up on the opposite bank near number two oval.

“We drilled up to 18 metres deep under the river bed,” said Paul.
