Narrabri Jockey Club committee members and helpers braved the rain on Sunday to work on preparation of the race course grounds in readiness for Saturday’s Narrabri races.

Earlier this year there had been uncertainty whether the scheduled races would be on because the track was so dry.

“But the races are definitely on,” said NJC president Bob Percival.

“We hope everyone will take the opportunity to come along and enjoy the day or part of the day.

“Admission will be free so people can just drop in for half an hour, ten minutes or all day.

“Vote in the morning and come out to the races, or come out to the races and vote later,” he suggested.

“It is a family day so we are looking forward to welcoming everyone.”

The volunteers were busy at the track on Sunday and will be working every day this week to make sure everything is ready for the big day.

“The weekend’s storms will set up the grounds nicely,” said Bob.

“We will have green lawns and the track will be great.

“The track is good now, but it will be perfect on Saturday,” he added.

“The gates will open at 11am with the six race program starting at 1pm.

Feature races will include the Santos Narrabri Cup and the Tim Bell Memorial Cup.

The bar will be open and there will be plenty of food.

Children’s activities, including a photo booth, will entertain the kids.

A popular feature will be the Fly Corporate Fashions in the Field.

“It will be a great day out – come and relax with the family,” said Bob.
