Eight Narrabri Junior Soccer players had the chance of a lifetime on Saturday when they walked out onto McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle at half time of the A-League’s ‘F3 Derby’ match.
At the match played between the home side the Newcastle Jets and the visitors the Central Coast Mariners, the Narrabri players contested a 4v4 small-sided game among themselves in the Halftime Heroes program.
Narrabri Junior Soccer was invited by the Newcastle Jets and Aldi Miniroos to participate in the program.
Beau Laws, Imogen Lubke-Wood, Brad Ryan, Ethan Megalokonomos, Gus Ford, Reece Kelly, Chelsea Stait and Charlotte Harris were the Narrabri players who played in front of the 8173-strong crowd.
Before the game the Narrabri juniors also met the Newcastle Jets’ coach Ernie Merrick and gave the Jets’ players high fives when they ran out for their warm up,
They also visited the Jets’ changerooms, saw all of the players’ jerseys hanging up and looked at the tactics and the game plan for the game.
The following day the juniors attended a Northern NSW Football gala day, playing against teams from the Newcastle area. Narrabri won all of its games on the day.
