Police are appealing for public assistance after an armed robbery at Bellata early on Monday morning.

Just after 4.10am, police were called to a service station on the Newell Highway, Bellata, after reports of an armed robbery.

Police have been told two males approached the counter and threatened the attendant.

The two men left with a sum of money and were last seen travelling south on the Newell Highway in a vehicle (no description at this stage).

The attendant was not injured during the incident.

Officers from Oxley Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the area, particularly any vehicles seen driving at speed or erratically on the Newell

Highway in the early hours of Monday morning.

Namoi Gwydir Rural Fire Service superintendent Michael Brooks said a Rural Fire Service unit with three volunteers was tasked to attend the service station and monitor the situation because of fuel spillage at the site of the robbery.
