Narrabri’s main street will be given a major $2 million facelift, the final stage of a program which has seen a median strip, trees and street lights installed.
A new asphalt road surface will be laid, two roundabouts rebuilt, a new storm water drainage system installed, which will ease storm flooding like that seen on the weekend, and a new water main.
The work will renew Maitland Street from the Lloyd to Bowen cross streets.
The CBD street has been increasingly showing signs of age with subsidences, rough patches and bitumen breaking up in places.
Last meeting of Narrabri Shire Council agreed it was time to launch the program.
The work will include $900,000 for new asphalt from Lloyd to Bowen streets and $50,000 for the replacement and reconstruction of the Dewhurst and Doyle street roundabouts.
Beneath the street, $554,000 has been allocated for the replacement of the water main and $200,000 has been earmarked for the replacement of storm water pipes.
Conduits for installation of closed circuit television cameras are included in the overall works.
The re-sealing of Maitland Street, new parking space markings, revamped roundabouts and water and drainage works will complete the makeover of the Narrabri CBD which started with the median strip, trees and street lights.
Long awaited, CCTV security cameras will be installed at the two upgraded roundabouts.
“The first phase of the work is to replace the pipeline under the western side of Maitland Street with directional boring” said the council’s Director, infrastructure delivery Darren Raeck.
