The 2019 Central North Rugby Union season kicks off this Saturday and the Narrabri Rugby Club is well and truly ready to go.

The Blue Boars will once again field four teams in this year’s campaign – first grade, second grade, under-19s and women’s sevens.

Two of those grades will play their round one games on Saturday.

Playing its first CNRU match since winning the 2018 second grade grand final 15-5 against rivals Moree back in September last year, the Narrabri Blue Boars’ second XV will start its premiership defence against Walcha on Saturday.

Following that match the club’s first grade side will also challenge Walcha, the team that knocked the Boars out of the 2018 CNRU first grade finals series last August.

Both of those games will be played in front of a home crowd on Saturday afternoon at Dangar Park.

First grade coach Dylan Duncan told The Courier that he was confident heading into the 2019 CNRU season, and that playing in the 2019 first grade grand final was his goal.

“Finals and grand final, for sure,” Duncan said when asked about his goals for 2019.

“These guys are definitely good enough and there’s no reason why they can’t go on with it.

“The squad is looking pretty good.

“We have kept a lot of our players and it will be a fairly similar team to last year.

“Matt Schwager will start playing halfway through the year, he’ll be out for a little while with baby commitments.

“Well have Nathan Nott coming up into first grade and he’ll be good at halfback.”

Duncan said that Jacob Booby, who will not play in 2019 due to injury, was a big loss for the team.
