Narrabri’s Darrell Tiemens has been named as the winner of the 2019 Narrabri Shire National Volunteer Week award in recognition of his continual voluntary contribution to the community.

Mr Tiemens was nominated for extensive involvement in community based not for profit organisations, organisation of community events and participation in community groups.

As president of Rotary, Mr Tiemens instigated the Neighbours in Need program, supporting farming families and small businesses impacted by the drought.

He said he was pleased to receive the award but emphasised it didn’t just represent his individual efforts.

“I’m very excited but I think this award basically goes to all of the volunteers in the organisations that I represent like the Rotary, NOSH Narrabri where we’ve got 18 volunteers who tirelessly give up a lot of their time, Friends of the Crossing Theatre and a number of other organisations throughout Narrabri, said Mr Tiemens.
