Local swimmer Harry Bennett has excelled in the pool once again, this time winning nine gold medals at the 2019 New England North West Short Course Area Championships held in Armidale on Saturday and Sunday.

The 13-year-old took part in 10 events, winning them all except one.

Harry, the son of Anne and Garry Bennett, continued what has been an incredible season for the Karla’s Swim Team athlete.

He won gold medals in the four 13-years 50-metre strokes and the four 13-years 100-metre strokes, as well as the 13-years 100-metre individual medley.

In the 200-metre individual medley, which was an open age group event, Harry finished fourth.

Karla’s Swim Team head coach Karla Carruthers commended Harry’s performances throughout the weekend as well as his attitude.

“Harry has been playing a lot of footy so hasn’t been training as much as he would in the regular season,” Carruthers said.

“I was surprised at how well he did, he even made a PB despite not training as much.

“I’m more impressed with Harry’s attitude than his results.

“He listens to all feedback I give him, in training and before and after races, and always executes it properly.”

Harry will now turn his attention to the NSW Short Course Country Championships which will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and 7.

He will compete at six events at that meeting.
