Narrabri Tennis hosted its annual Narrabri Junior Development Series on Sunday at the Dangar Park Tennis Centre in the ninth event of the 2019 North West JDS.

Narrabri Tennis head coach Shane Murphy said that he was pleased with the numbers on the day.

“In total just under 90 participants took to the courts, amongst these players there was a solid turnout of Narrabri players who hit the court running,” Murphy said.

“In total 24 Narrabri Tennis players participated across the various age groups.

“This tournament provides an opportunity for all players to try tournament play tennis via a round robin format.

“Divisions were available for both boys and girls ranging from 8-years-and-under, 12-years-and-under, 14-years-and-under, 16-years-and-under right up to opens.”

Play in each age group is dictated by the amount of entries, and when needed age groups may be split into different pools with a seeded pool (top six North West ranked players) and the other pools competing.

The top two players from the other pool then qualify for the respective division’s playoffs.

The Narrabri Tennis athletes performed well on the day and there were some positive results from players either playing in their first tournament for the year or continuing the circuit and chasing qualification points for Champions of Champions.
