The Narrabri Sporties, formerly the Narrabri Bowling Club, green upgrade began early Friday morning with the site combining the McNamara and Campey greens.

The project was supported by the stronger communities fund.

The $494,806 grant was provided to both the Wee Waa Bowling Club and the Narrabri Sporties to resurface the bowling greens at both clubs.

The green will be surfaced with an artificial turf, similar to Wee Waa Bowling Club’s resurfaced green which was completed one month ago.

Narrabri Sporties’ director Archie Sheppard said that the green would be a great facility for both the Sporties and the Narrabri community.

“With the lights, it will give us essentially 24-7 greens, which will enable us to play night championships and night tournaments,” he said.

“It’s going to be beneficial to our club and it’s going to be beneficial to the community as a whole.

“We hope to encourage the Narrabri people to come here and play social bowls, have their functions and utilise the green and everything we will have here.

“We can also have people that haven’t played bowls before come down and enjoy it for what it is.”

Mr Sheppard said that the green would be moved further away from the clubhouse and would overlap both greens.
