Yellowbanks boat ramp opening

The Wee Waa Fishing Club hosted a very special opening of the Yellowbanks boat ramp, on Saturday, August 3.

“This ramp has been on the fishing club’s wish list for over 10 years and it is very satisfying to finally see it constructed,” said fishing club president John Tully.

“We decided at our December meeting that as a club, we would like to name the ramp in memory of a very popular local angler Grant Hall, who was tragically killed in a vehicle accident in October last year.

“With the input of Grant’s parents, Leanne and Mall Hall, we designed a sign that was very fitting and the club is very proud to be able to honour him at one of his favourite spots on the Namoi River.”

Part of the sign reads, ‘IN MEMORY OF THE COD KING. GRANTYMAN. GRANT HALL.’

Mr and Mrs Hall unveiled the sign at the grand opening event. Mr Tully said the boat ramp opening was a huge success with more than 100 people attending including the Hall family and friends, as well as members from surrounding fishing clubs.

Glenda Mason delivered the Welcome to Country, and attendees also took part in a smoking ceremony.

“We were able to sign up around 30 new members which was amazing and all were keen to get involved in the activities which included lure casting, camp oven cook-off and Billy boiling,” said Mr Tully.
