A 16-year-old boy has been charged after he allegedly aimed a compound bow and arrow at a police officer following a traffic stop.
About 2.40pm on Friday, an officer attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a silver BMW on the Kamilaroi Highway.
The car was allegedly driven by a 21-year-old woman, with 16-year-old boy sitting in the front passenger seat.
It is alleged they switched seats before the officer approached.
When the pair got out of the car, the teenager allegedly reached into the vehicle and obtained a compound bow and arrow, which he allegedly pointed at the officer.
The officer drew his firearm and instructed the teenager to drop the weapon, and he complied.
The teenager allegedly tried to reach for the weapon again before being directed to move away from it. When the officer tried to arrest the teenager, he was allegedly hindered by the 21-year-old woman, allowing the teenager to flee.
Further inquiries were conducted and police attended a residential property on Maitland Street, Breeza, where a teenager was located and arrested. He was taken to Gunnedah Police Station where he was charged with ‘use weapon to resist arrest, assault’ and other actions against a police officer.
He was bail refused to appear at a children’s court on Saturday.
