In superb spring weather, 45 golfers enjoyed the fun of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s annual Golf Day, said Sharon Grellman, the WRHS support Group chair for the Wee Waa region.

“The course was dry but the enthusiasm was high,” said Mrs Grellman.

“Local rules applied and a tee-up was permitted unless you were in sand or within one metre of a tree.”

Mrs Grellman said that despite the drought, businesses, golfers and their friends were incredibly generous and the raffle and auction were very well supported, a sign of how much the community appreciates and values the rescue chopper’s service.

About $6000 was raised through golf fees, the raffle, donations and the kindness of the community and business houses.

“We are blessed to have such fabulous volunteers and participants enjoyed our outstanding hospitality including a magnificent morning tea, lunch and high tea,” said Mrs Grellman.

“Everyone joined in to produce a magnificent array of foods.

“Dick Crutcher entertained us enormously and coaxed a significant amount of money from our willing participants in the auction.

“We are lucky to have the support of Steggles, who supplied chicken for the barbecue and high tea.

“Our raffle was sponsored by the IGA and prize winners were Julie Crutcher, Nicole Paulston and Jaxon Gray. (See Classifieds.)

Conrad Bolton, who the WRHS recently appointed as chair of its New England North West Regional Advisory Committee, attended the event and thanked the community for its support.
