Feral deer are rapidly becoming a serious pest in new areas, and have been sighted in the Nandewar foothills among other places not far from Narrabri. A reader has recalled to Topical that some years ago he was at the Narrabri Golf Club chatting to a German tourist who was gazing out at the mountains. “Are there deer up there?” the visitor asked. “No” he was told. “You should introduce deer there” the visitor said. “Why?” our informant asked. “So people can shoot them” was the reply.
