We are affected by the route of the proposed Inland Rail, don’t we have the right to have our questions answered?
Questions to the planners:

1. Why does the rail need to be near Narrabri and cause 140 minutes a day of noise? (projected 20 trains/day times seven minutes each).

2. What is the cost comparison of locating the train out of town (where relatively few people are affected).

3. Why haven’t we received figures on the expected noise levels?

4. Would sound barrier panels be constructed – where, what would they look like?

5. What is the expected freight that would be sent to Brisbane or Melbourne compared to Newcastle?

6. What employment would be generated in Narrabri by the Inland Rail?

7. The Inland Rail apparently finishes 20 kilometres short of the shipping docks in Brisbane. What freight is expected to be exported from Brisbane from this Narrabri district?

8. Is it expected that the bulk shipment of wheat from Newcastle will be ceased and containerised? In what period of time will this happen? Can bulk wheat trains travel on the Inland Rail line?

9. Will containers of cotton lint still go out from Newcastle because this is more economic than out of Brisbane? (No trucking for the last 20 kilometres before the port.)

10. Have allowances been made for future bi-directional lines (one in each direction) to be built? Will there be extra resumptions of land and buildings in the future? And how soon?
