As this will be my last Mayoral Column for 2019, I would like to commend and congratulate our fantastic local businesses in the Shire.

Just in the past week, I have noticed the traffic flow – both pedestrian and vehicle – has increased that little bit more to put the positivity and festive-feel back into all major town centres.

Don’t forget the many businesses that are not also located within the CBD areas, as they are also supplying many wonderful gift options for locals as well.

This type of community support will go a long way to keeping the Christmas atmosphere positive for so many local business owners and their employees as well, whilst still trying to ‘cope’ with the seemingly never-ending drought conditions.

Let’s hope that some Christmas rain is on the way, as that is all I am asking for from Santa this year!

Again, just a reminder that the Narrabri Christmas Fair will be held on Thursday evening December 19, for the last late night shopping experience (between 4 and 9pm).

Wee Waa are continuing their Chamber of Commerce tradition of Mardi Gras on Tuesday December 17, for their annual Rose Street Christmas Mardi Gras.

Boggabri will certainly also be having their community Christmas street event as well on Friday, December 13 from 6pm onwards.

I will continue to emphasise to our Shire residents to shop locally leading up to Christmas and support our local families and employees, and to keep money spent locally to build and grow our fantastic towns.

As I mentioned earlier, this will be my last Mayoral Column for the year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Councillors, general manager and our dedicated staff for their continued enthusiasm in achieving many great things during this past year, and I especially acknowledge the outstanding contribution of our community groups and volunteers for their continued commitment to our community.

Again, I wish you and your families a restful and relaxing festive season, take care if you are travelling away, and I hope that you will continue to support and each other and your community in 2020.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
