Wee Waa High School student Emily Shearin is the 54th recipient from the Narrabri Shire to be awarded the Auscott Education Program Scholarship announced today.

This scholarship is available to students who live in the Narrabri Shire and attend one of the local high schools.

Criteria used by the Selection Committee for awarding the scholarship include realistic ambition, need, the ability to succeed in a chosen course, motivation, academic performance, personal presentation, community involvement and maturity.

Academic results are not the sole basis on which a decision is reached.

Emily joins other Auscott Scholarship winners from the Gwydir, Macquarie and Murrumbidgee Valleys.

The scholarship assists students to meet expenses such as tuition, books, living expenses, as well as other compulsory and course fees, totalling up to $11,500.00 per year over the life of the scholarship.

Emily was chosen from 14 applicants from the Narrabri and Wee Waa High Schools.

The award follows an interview process that was undertaken in September 2019 by a panel of representatives from the respective High Schools and Auscott.

A representative from Auscott congratulated Emily on becoming part of the scholarship program and commended her history of achievement by being a High School Captain and representing her school overseas at the world Robotics Championships.

Emily has also participated in various sports and community events.

Emily will be attending the University of New England where she will study a Bachelor of Agriculture.
