References to temperatures in The Courier pages of the 1920s refer to degrees Fahrenheit – Celsius wasn’t the main descriptor in those days, or in fact until relative recent times, and many people today relate hot days to Fahrenheit – as they do with distance – miles instead of kilometres. For the record, 100F is the equivalent of 37.7 Celsius.
